Setting up the Scanner

The VIN scanner is made by Symbol and is model number LS4278. It communicates to a base unit using Bluetooth technology. The base unit’s model number is STB4278. The base unit also serves as the charging station for the scanner. A base unit (STB4208) is also available that only serves as a charging station. The communication cradle (STB4278) needs to be connected to your computer via a serial port.

Use of this product requires ISI Support to connect to your system and activate the product. For more information on setting up the scanner or for activation please call 800-252-3099.

If you use the last 8, 9 or 10 characters of the VIN as the vehicle ID you must go through the following steps. If you are using the license plate as the vehicle ID you may skip this section:

1. On the Main Menu, select Lubrication Menu.
2. Select Lubrication Setup Menu (6).
3. Select Lubrication Basic Setup Menu (1).
4. Select Set Up Center Control (1).
5. Press the [F7] key five times to get to screen 6 of 8.

6. Enter down to the Paste VIN Length field and enter the number of characters you use from the VIN for the vehicle ID.
